Art Quilt Wall Hanging -- Family Flock with Four Birds -- Blue Birds Happiness Number 6
In this lovely wall hanging art quilt, a flock of four birds are perched on wires. Two larger birds rest beneath a red felt heart button, and two smaller birds are perched above. Perfect as a representation of family: one bird seems to take after "dad" and the other seems to take after "mom," because coordinating fabrics are used for each.
I am calling this series of quilts "blue * birds * happiness" because they symbolize the joy of companionship, love, and family. This art quilt is number 6 in the series.
The flock on this miniature art quilt needs only a small space to hang in your home. The birds feature gorgeous fabrics with colorful details. Two of the birds (one large and one small) are cut from fabrics in a blue, green, and tan paisley and swirl design. The other two birds have matching blues with the addition of reds, tans, and browns, with flowers and leaves resembling feathers and other details. A subtle lighter and darker blue patterned fabric is used for the background, evocative of clouds in the sky.
Two quilts in this series were part of the Fiber Shots exhibit at the San Jose Quilt and Textile Museum in 2012.
The birds are cut by hand from designer fabrics upcycled through FabMo (a local nonprofit that rescues designer materials that would otherwise be thrown away). They are machine appliqued, and the entire quilt has been machine quilted. A black binding is finished by hand with mitered corners.
I started making wall hanging art quilts when I moved to California and started worrying about the effect of an earthquake on the art I hung on the walls -- especially above my bed! With a soft artistic quilt hanging above my head, I still have beautiful walls but no longer have midnight worries about something coming crashing down if and when a tremor hits.
The quilt is 14 1/2" by 14 3/4" and two black ribbons are attached to the back so that it can be easily displayed on a hanging rod by simply tying the ribbons into pretty bows (or tying tightly so that the ribbons hide behind the quilt). The quilt is shown hanging in the final picture of the listing. The quilt back features pretty light blue flowers on a white background with a label initialed by myself, including the name and number of the quilt (blue * birds * happiness, # 6 in the series) as well as my artist information and care instructions.
The quilt will be wrapped carefully and packaged securely for priority shipping so that it arrives safely at your door.
